BALLYGALLY NATURE WATCH

NATURAL HABITAT DEVELOPMENT  - TREE PLANTING

Wildlife Support Habitat

The Natural Habitat Development Project is aimed at improving the natural habitat of Chaine's Wood to encourage wildlife, back into the wood. A tree pack was awarded by the Woodland Trust. In the ‘wildlife’ themed tree pack oak trees were received plus trees which are great sources of food for wildlife – hawthorn, rowan, blackthorn, silver birch and hazel. In total 105 trees were planted in the wood. Unfortunately, there will be a lot of competition for water and nutrients as there is a considerable amount of ivy growing and spreading on the ground throughout the wood. Out of the 105 trees planted, it is hoped that a considerable number will survive and grow into mature trees thereby attracting more wildlife to the wood.
